DEAR READERS,

You may have noticed that the Fabled Dram has been on hiatus this last month.  This is due to a trans Atlantic relocation, for the next few months I will be writing from Washington DC, USA.  The impetus for the move is entirely unrelated to whisky but since arriving I have found myself charging head long in to a culture of American scotch. Some great insight and more than a few funny moments.

The plan is to start weekly posts again this month. Thank you for patience!

BRUICHLADDICH

‘Cheeky’ is the perfect way to describe my feelings toward this particular brand of whisky.  Bruichladdich was a popular brand when I first started among the shelves at The Grill.  It was situated on a top shelve above the optics and reaching the bottles, if you were small like me, had to be achieved by standing on the molding of the lowest shelf, steadying yourself on the door frame and launching one’s self over the vodka bottles.  People who ordered Brichladdich where the bane of my working nights for months until a co-worker who was shorter than I presented me with a crate to stand on.

This article in the New Yorker does a beautiful job of describing not only the cultural undertones of Scotch whisky but also the importance of peat.
